Bespoke Loft Angle Furniture: What You Need to Know
Loft conversions are one of the most popular home improvements in London — but the sloped ceilings, knee walls and dormer windows they create make furnishing them a genuine challenge. Standard furniture wastes the angled space, leaving unusable voids that undermine the investment you've made in the conversion itself.
Bear Brothers specialises in furniture designed specifically for loft spaces. We build wardrobes that follow roof pitches, shelving that tucks into eaves and storage units that transform knee walls from dead space into the most organised part of your home.
Every piece is templated on site to capture the exact angles, heights and obstructions in your loft. We then build in our workshop and install with precision — scribing to rafters, purlins and plasterboard for a seamless architectural finish.
Whether your loft conversion is a master bedroom suite, a children's room or a home office, we design furniture that makes the space feel intentional — not compromised.
Why Standard Furniture Fails in Loft Conversions
Height restrictions
Standard wardrobes are 2m+ tall. Most loft spaces have clearance of 1.2–1.8m at the eaves, making off-the-shelf furniture physically impossible to use against sloped walls.
Wasted eaves space
The triangular void behind knee walls is often the largest storage opportunity in a loft conversion. Without purpose-built furniture, it sits empty collecting dust.
Awkward dormer recesses
Dormer windows create recesses that standard bookcases and desks can't fill properly. The result is furniture that juts out into the room, blocking light and walkways.
Structural obstructions
Purlins, collar ties and water tanks create obstacles that generic furniture can't navigate. Bespoke solutions work around these elements rather than being defeated by them.
Undermined conversion investment
A loft conversion typically costs £40,000–£80,000. Filling it with furniture that doesn't fit wastes a significant proportion of that investment in usable space.
How We Work
Loft Survey & Angle Mapping
We visit and measure every slope, angle, dormer recess, knee wall height and structural obstruction. We use digital angle finders and laser measures to capture precise geometry.
Design to the Angles
Using your measurements, we design furniture that follows the roof pitch exactly — not approximations. 3D renders show how each piece sits in the space.
Workshop Build
Components are CNC-cut to the precise angles measured on site. Face frames, doors and panels are all pre-fitted in the workshop to verify alignment before delivery.
Finish
Painted, stained or oiled to your specification. Angled tops are finished as carefully as visible faces — no rough-cut exposed edges.
Installation & Scribing
Fitted on site, scribed to rafters and plaster, and adjusted for any minor construction variations. We leave the space clean and usable.
Why Choose Bear Brothers
Every Angle Used
Furniture follows the exact roof pitch, transforming unusable angled voids into fully functional wardrobe space, bookshelves and desk areas.
Eaves Become Storage
Pull-out drawers, shoe racks and linen storage tucked into knee walls — accessible daily without crawling into a void.
Dormer Integration
Window seats, desks and shelving designed around dormer recesses so they enhance natural light instead of blocking it.
Structural Sensitivity
We work around purlins, tie bars and service runs without damaging them — important for structural integrity and building regulations compliance.
Room Feels Complete
Purpose-built furniture makes a loft room feel designed, not compromised. It adds value and usability that generic furniture cannot.
Built-In, Not Bolted-On
Scribed to walls and roof angles for a permanent, architectural finish. No wobbling, no gaps, no visible fixings.
Types of Loft Furniture We Build
Angled wardrobes are our most common loft project. We build them to follow the roof slope exactly, with full-height hanging on the tall side transitioning to shelving and drawers as the ceiling drops. Doors are either hinged (for deeper wardrobes) or sliding (for tight spaces).
Eaves storage units use the triangular knee wall space. We install pull-out drawer systems on heavy-duty runners so you can access stored items without kneeling or crawling. These are perfect for seasonal clothing, bedding, luggage and children's toys.
Loft desks and workstations are positioned where natural light is best — typically against dormers or roof windows. We design around cable routing, monitor heights and chair clearance to create genuine working environments in attic rooms.
Construction for Difficult Access
Loft access is often limited — narrow staircases, tight corners and standard-width doors. We build all loft furniture in sections designed to pass through your access route, then assemble on site with concealed fixings. The finished result looks like one continuous piece.
We use lightweight birch plywood for carcasses where access is very restricted, reducing the weight of each section without sacrificing structural integrity.
Loft Furniture for Children's Rooms and Guest Rooms
Loft conversions frequently become children's bedrooms or guest rooms. We design with child-safe features — soft-close everything, rounded edges, anti-tip wall fixings and lower hanging rails that children can reach independently.
For guest rooms, we build multi-function furniture: wardrobe with integrated fold-down desk, window seat with storage for bedding, and bedside tables that follow the ceiling slope.
