Fitted Wardrobes: What You Need to Know
Fitted wardrobes are the single most impactful upgrade you can make to a bedroom. They transform awkward spaces, eliminate gaps that collect dust and provide dramatically more storage than any freestanding wardrobe — while making the room feel larger and more cohesive.
Bear Brothers builds fitted wardrobes that span floor to ceiling and wall to wall, using every available centimetre. The external design matches your room's architecture — whether that's a period property with picture rails and coving or a clean-lined modern flat. The internal layout is designed around your specific wardrobe.
We use solid timber doors, birch plywood carcasses and Blum soft-close hinges and runners throughout. Our wardrobes don't look or feel like the melamine-and-wire-basket systems you'll find in wardrobe showrooms — they look and feel like permanent, architectural features of your home.
From a single wardrobe in an alcove to a full wall of storage in a master bedroom, we design fitted wardrobes that solve your storage problems permanently.
The Problem With Freestanding and Off-the-Shelf Wardrobes
Wasted space above and around
Freestanding wardrobes leave gaps above, at the sides and behind. A fitted wardrobe eliminates all of this — the furniture becomes the wall.
Unstable and dangerous
Tall freestanding wardrobes need wall-anchoring to prevent tipping, especially in homes with children. Fitted wardrobes are inherently stable — they're part of the room.
Generic interiors
Off-the-shelf wardrobes come with one hanging rail and one shelf. That's inadequate for any real wardrobe. Fitted solutions have multiple zones designed for your clothing types.
Poor door operation
Cheap hinges sag within a year. Sliding doors jump off tracks. Our Blum hinges are rated for 200,000 open-close cycles — roughly 30 years of daily use.
Visible backs and gaps
Freestanding wardrobes show their backs when doors are open and collect dust in the gap behind. Fitted wardrobes are scribed to walls with no visible rear panel.

Why Choose Bear Brothers
30–50% More Storage

Seamless Room Integration
Designed to look architectural — matching coving returns, integrating with skirting boards and following room proportions.
Custom Internal Layout
Double hanging, full-length hanging, pull-out trouser racks, shoe shelves, drawers, hooks and accessory compartments — all planned for your wardrobe.
Solid Timber Doors
Panelled, Shaker, slab or routed designs in any paint colour or natural timber finish. No vinyl wraps, no foil, no melamine.
Soft-Close Everything
Blum hinges and Grass runners on every door and drawer. Silent operation, no slamming, minimal wear.
Dust-Free Design
Scribed to walls, floor and ceiling with no gaps for dust to accumulate behind or on top of the wardrobe.
Fitted Wardrobe Door Options
Hinged doors are the most popular choice — they open fully for easy access to the entire wardrobe interior and don't require floor tracks. We use Blum Clip Top hinges with integrated soft-close.
Sliding doors are ideal where bedroom space is tight and door swing would obstruct walkways or the bed. We use top-hung sliding systems with soft-close stops — no floor track to collect dust or catch bare feet.
Bi-fold doors combine the full-opening access of hinged doors with the space efficiency of sliders. They fold back on themselves, requiring only half the swing clearance.
Internal Organisation Systems
We don't use wire baskets or plastic-coated shelving. Internal components are solid timber or plywood — matching the quality of the exterior. Drawers are dovetailed with Blum Legrabox runners.
Typical internal zones include: double-height short hanging, full-length hanging, adjustable shelving, pull-out trouser/skirt hangers, shoe racks (angled or pull-out), laundry hamper, jewellery drawers and a high shelf for seasonal storage.
LED lighting activates when doors open — strip lights along hanging rails and puck lights above shelves ensure you can see every item clearly.
Fitted Wardrobes for Alcoves and Chimney Breasts
Victorian and Edwardian bedrooms typically have alcoves either side of a chimney breast. Fitted wardrobes in these alcoves are one of the most popular and cost-effective ways to add significant storage without losing floor space.
We can bridge across the chimney breast above the bed to create a continuous run of overhead storage, visually unifying the wall while adding valuable capacity for seasonal items.
